Today at 12 in the third floor conference room there will be a presentation
on a workshop that will be held in August.
This August a two day workshop on HPC and geological structures modelling
will be held at UI. Simula Research in Norway is the main organizer, in
particular one of their students and an ex-student of UI, Yapi Danatien
Achou. Ten participants from Simula are expected. A short description
follows.
The Computational Geoscience deptartment of Simula Research Laboratory in
Norway is having a workshop on geological structures modelling and high
performance computing (HPC). The workshop will be held at the University of
Iceland, August 21st and 23rd, 2013.
The Computational Geoscience dept. of research areas are: Geology,
geophysics, plate tectonics, geodynamics and HPC. We have developed
software and methodologies that target cutting-edge parallel hardware to
simulate real-world applications of HPC for geoscience and biomedical
computing. The largest simulation so far used 1024 GPU and 12288 CPU cores.

.
The prime objective is to establish research collaborations between the
Computational Geoscience dept. of Simula Research Laboratory and Icelandic
researchers in the field of geoscience, computer science and applied
mathematics.
Potential participants and speakers can contact the head of the
Computational Geoscience dept., Dr Stuart R. Clark,
