Opinn fyrirlestur mánudaginn 28. ágúst kl. 16 í Odda 101

Mótmælaaldan gegn ísraelskum stjórnvöldum á árunum 2020-2021 er
umfjöllunarefni þessa fyrirlesturs ásamt þeim mótmælaaðgerðum sem nú standa
yfir gegn lagabreytingum ríkisstjórnar Netanyahu. *Dani Schrire* tengir
aðgerðir mótmælenda, og sviðsetningu þeirra, sérstaklega við umbyltingar í
kjölfar kórónuveirufaraldursins. Þar má nefna aukinn sýndarveruleika og þau
viðbrigði að snúa aftur til beinna mannlegra samskipta. Slíkar umbyltingar
kunna einnig að hafa mikla þýðingu í víðara samhengi. Fyrirlesturinn er á
ensku og eru öll velkomin!

*Dani Schrire* er dósent við Hebreska háskólann í Jerúsalem og leiðir
þjóðfræði- og menningarfræðideildina þar. Hann var nýdoktor við
þjóðfræðistofnunina í Göttingen og Katz rannsóknarmiðstöðina í gyðinglegum
fræðum við Háskólann í Pennsylvaníu. Milli þess sem hann mótmælir á götum
úti,  teppir umferðargötur og verður fyrir árásum lögreglumanna á hestbaki
stundar hann rannsóknir m.a. á þjóðfræði gyðinga í alþjóðlegum tengslanetum.

"You Stepped on the Wrong Generation!": Protests in the Days after Corona
in Israel

This talk addresses the wave of protests against the government in Israel
in the course of 2020-2021 and the on-going demonstrations and activism in
Israel against the judicial coup led by Netanyahu and his fellow ministers
in these last months. I argue that the focus on the performance and
practices of the protestors is strongly tied to post-COVID cultural
transformation which includes a growing virtualization of interactions
between subjects as well as a reaction of an enhanced return to
face-to-face interaction, which may have broader political and social
implications in the future

*Dani Schrire* is the head of the Program of Folklore and Folk-Culture
Studies and a senior lecturer in the Program in Cultural Studies at the
Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He carried out postdoctoral research at the
Institute for Cultural Anthropology / European Ethnology, Göttingen and the
Katz Center for Advanced Judaic Studies at the University of Pennsylvania.
When he is not blocking streets, chanting with a fist in the air, marching,
being run over by police horses, he studies Jewish folkloristics in
international networks, walking as cultural and political practice,
folklore archives and collecting and postcards of the Holy Land in times of
upheaval.
The event is organised by the Folkloristics program at the University of
Iceland in cooperation with the Institute of International Affairs and the
Association of Folklorists in Iceland
