Call for Papers 

INTERIM CONFERENCE 

OF THE INTERNATIONAL SOCİETY FOR FOLK NARRATIVE RESEARCH (ISFNR) 

Ankara, September 1-6, 2015 

 

The University of Hacettepe, one of the leading universities in Turkey, is
proud to invite the members of the International Society for Folk Narrative
Research to hold an Interim Conference in Ankara, Turkey, 1-6 September
2015. Hacettepe University pledges itself to train highly qualified
individuals for the future of the country in the light of the universal
values and availing of its wide experience in science, technology and art
and to offer its output in the fields of research, education and service for
the benefit of the society. 

 

We welcome scholarly presentations (time limit 20 minutes) concerning any of
the following topics: 

 

1. Cultural heritage 

The role of narratives and narrating in creating and transforming cultural
heritages. 

2. Societies in transition 

How do narratives and narrating promote, influence, or obstruct societal
change? 

3. Narrative and Religion 

How do narratives relate to specific aspects of religion, such as the
worship of saints and sacred places? 

Registration 

 

You are welcome to submit your conference registration by sending an e-mail
to isfnr.ankara at yahoo.com. The deadline for proposals is 15 March 2015.
Participants will be notified of acceptance by May 1, 2015. Please make sure
to include the following information with your proposal: 

 

. full name, e-mail address, and institutional affiliation; 

. membership status; 

. the title of your proposed paper; 

. a 250 word abstract; 

. a 150 word bionote; 

 

Registration Fee 

Regular Registration (until June 1, 2015) 

Full registration: 150 EUR 

Reduced fee for accompanying persons, unemployed colleagues and PhD
students: 75 EUR 

Late registration or on site payment (after June 1, 2015) 

Full registration: 175 EUR 

Reduced fee for accompanying persons, unemployed colleagues and PhD
students: 90 EUR 

 

Note. Participants of the Interim Conference are reminded that this is an
event organized primarily by and for members of the International Society
for Folk Narrative Research. To ensure their full ISFNR membership status
participants will be asked to check with the treasurer or the treasurer's
representative, and ISFNR members who have not yet paid their dues will be
asked to do so during on-site registration. The current membership rates are
25 Euros or 30 US Dollars per annum. Non-members wishing to participate in
the Ankara congress are welcome, but will be expected to pay an additional
registration fee of 50 EUR prior to registration. Reduced rates at 25 EUR
for non-members will only be applicable for students, unemployed, and
accompanying persons. Please note that all payments to the ISFNR treasurer
must be made in cash. 

 

Second circular 

A second circular with detailed information about the venue as well as
accommodation and suggestions for travel arrangements will be mailed to
those who have registered for the conference in due time. Please note that
participants are expected to pay for their own travel arrangements.
