Dear Folda members
Jeanne Giniaux is going to present her ongoing master project.
Here is a short summary of what she is going to talk about:
"Structure of phreatomagmatic crater rows from gravity surveying.
Conduit shape comparisons between Vatnaöldur and Veiðivötn fissures (south
central Iceland) due to variations in explosive activity"
The study takes place in south central Iceland, at Vatnaöldur and
Veiðivötn fissures. A gravity survey has been done along 6 profiles taht
cross 6 explosive craters (2 belong to Veiðivötn and 4 are associated to
Vatnaöldur).
The aim of this project is to use gravity in order to highlight the
density contrast between the light material (tephra) that must fill the
conduit of the explosive craters with the more denser surrounding lavas.
>From this density contrast, modeling enable to have an idea of the shape
of the volcanic conduits and their structure can be determined (thickness
and volume).
I have currently started the modeling stage.
Best regards
