CFP, the Nordic Conference on Cultural Policy Research 24–25th August 2023

Dear friends and colleagues.
We are pleased to inform you that the 11th Nordic Conference on Cultural Policy Research will take place in Copenhagen 23-25th of August 2023. With this email, we want to encourage you to contribute to the conference with a short or full paper or a panel. The deadline for proposals is January 13th 2023.

The conference theme is Cultural democracy between policy & politics.
Cultural policy research has traditionally focused more on the notion of policy than politics. However, we currently see signs that cultural policy is facing a re-politization. Political polarization, anti-globalist movements, and growing nationalism, fueled by populist political philosophies that disregard fundamental democratic norms and politicize cultural life changes the conditions for cultural policymaking. Simultaneously, the cultural field is influenced by a strong focus on post- and decolonization, intersectionality, activism and sustainability that challenges established values of the common good in cultural policy. What does this mean for the policy of cultural democracy, with its focus on diversity, inclusion, participation and intercultural dialogue? Has the cultural field entered an era of “post-consensus”? If so, how can agents in the field of culture navigate this complex situation? With the theme “Cultural democracy between policy & politics”, we wish to make way for explorations of Nordic cultural policy in the light of the current re-politization of the field.

We are very happy to inform you, that Lluís Bonet, Professor at the University of Barcelona, Birgit Eriksson, Professor at Aarhus University and Anne-Britt Gran, Professor at BI Norwegian Business School have all agreed to be the conference’s keynote speakers.

Please go to our website https://eventsignup.ku.dk/nccpr/ and see the full call for papers, including guidelines for the different formats for proposals. The website is still under construction, but in the coming months, we will have information on how to submit abstracts and papers, as well as information about accommodation, registration etc.

We are looking forward to welcoming you to the conference!

Kind regards from the organizing team
