At the Department of ALM, education is conducted at an advanced level within the master's program in ALM (archival science, library and information science and museum and cultural heritage), the master's program in Digital Humanities, the Digital Humanities Uppsala research network, and education at doctoral level in library and information science. The department currently has about ten teachers and researchers as well as six doctoral students.

Duties/Project description: One of the doctoral students will be working in research project CApturing Paradata for documenTing data creation and Use for the REsearch of the future (CAPTURE), financed by the European Research Council (ERC) Consolidator Grant No 818210 and directed by professor Isto Huvila. The doctoral student is expected to conduct empirical research on the analysis of the impact and practices relating to the production and use of paradata in scientific and scholarly information- and knowledge production, and (re)-use of research data. The second position as a doctoral student is administered by the Department of ALM, but the holder of the position will be an active member of the Engaging Vulnerability (EV) research program at Uppsala University. EV is a multidisciplinary research program funded for ten years (2015–2025) by the Swedish Research Council (Vetenskapsrådet) with support from the Vice-Chancellor’s strategic funds, and the Faculty of Arts. The goal of the program is to conduct empirical research and develop perspectives that engage vulnerability as a productive resource rather than a lack or privation. Currently, research within the program is being carried out in the disciplines of anthropology, ethnology, philosophy, rhetoric, media and communication, comparative literature, design studies, musicology, and history of ideas.

In order to be considered, the application must take care to explain clearly how the proposed project will constitute a contribution to the overall aims of the EV-program.

Education at the doctoral level consists of 4 years doctoral studentship (doktorandanställning). Doctoral students are expected to pursue their studies full-time and actively take part in the activities of the department. Departmental duties (typically teaching and administration) not exceeding 20% can be included in the positions.

Qualifications required: Applicants must have a Master’s degree in Information Studies, Library and Information Science, Archival Science, Museum and Cultural Heritage Studies or a corresponding degree in a nearby field.

	• verified copy of the degree certificate for a relevant master’s degree (or equivalent) and a diploma supplement, and a transcript of records (if applicable)
	• research plan (see below)
	• copies of written material (e.g. Master’s thesis) and other relevant documentation the applicant chooses to present as a support for his/her application. 

Research plan: The research plan shall not exceed 2,000 words and is expected to contain a tentative heading, aim and problem statement, present the subject area and focus of the research, theoretical frameworks and specific methods to be applied, and a preliminary timetable for the 4 year period.  

Selection: The selection will be based on candidate’s ability to profit by the education and to successfully complete the doctoral education. Considerable emphasis will be placed on the submitted research plans.
