#Forced Migration and @ethical_research:
Moving the Agenda Forward
A full-day Workshop at the iConference 2020 on Monday, March 23, 2020 in Borås, Sweden
We seek to bring together researchers from the information fields and related disciplines as well as non-academics (e.g. NGO’s, LIS professionals, community groups) to reflect critically on their experiences and engagement in the field of migration and (re)settlement, with particular emphasis on information practices, ICT use, and forms of engagement and learning. The goal is to explore and stimulate the development of a refugee-centered approach in information-related research that positions refugees as active participants in the research and supports their well-being and priorities.
The workshop will include three main activities:
1. Panel discussion with academics and non-academics who have worked closely with populations who are experiencing forced migration or the process of settlement, or who have themselves experienced migration and settlement firsthand
2. Lightning talks and other interactive sessions that will give participants a chance to actively work through issues, play out plausible scenarios, and collaboratively seek possible approaches
3. Networking sessions to explore avenues for collaboration and coordination across sectors and disciplines
Abstract Submission
We welcome submissions for presenting lightning talks (10-15 minutes) on lessons learnt researching and engaging with forced migrants.
We welcome submissions on topics that include (but are not limited to):

We also welcome presentation of methods, including (among many others):

* Narrative methods, e.g. Storytelling, Language cafés
* Action oriented methods, e.g. Theatre plays, Workshops (e.g. Teen Design Days), Co-cooking; game design; hackathons
* ‘Non-media-centric’ approaches, e.g. focus research on how migrants interact with ICTs rather than on the media
Your submission should include:
* An abstract of your lightning talk – no more than 300 words
* Each lightning talk session will be followed by an interactive activity or discussion. Please identify the one or two key questions you might pose or the activities you will use to encourage audience participation -- no more than 200 words.
