LIS IN THE 21ST CENTURY: CHALLENGES FOR RESEARCH AND TEACHING
Invitation to the 70the anniversary jubilee conference 9th and 10th of 
December 2010 at Oslo University College

This conferense is open for all LIS-educators in the Nordic and Baltic 
countries. For more information, please se attached document!

"LIS education in the tension ridden field between vocation, profession 
and discipline has been a long standing issue. Adapting our curricula to 
the Bologna process in general, and to the new European qualification 
framework, in particular, makes it necessary to discuss this issue not 
only in a theoretical and abstract, but also in a highly concrete 
manner. How should we in our curricula and courses strike the balance 
between (practical) skills and more general and theoretical knowledge 
and understanding?  At the conference we want to highlight and exchange 
experiences on this issue as it stands forth in the different subfields 
of LIS: Knowledge organization and retrieval and the cultural, social 
and political dimensions of LIS education."
