Open fixed term position at Åbo Akademi University
The Department of Information Studies at Åbo Akademi University is well
established and internationally recognized for excellence in research
and education. The department conducts a wide array of research
including research about social media, Library 2.0, knowledge
management, health information behavior, and scientometrics. The
department is part of the School of Business and Economics and it has
strong connections and collaborative multidisciplinary projects with
other departments in the school.
We are seeking a PROJECT RESEARCHER for a fixed-term position in an ESF
(European Social Fund) funded project AVO - Open networks for learning
(Avoimet verkostot oppimiseen). Depending on funding and results, the
position may be continued as a PH.D. CANDIDATE position after the
current project.
The work consists of research, education and related duties in a project
on using Second Life as an open environment for learning. To be
considered for the position the applicant is required to have a master's
degree in information studies (or library and information science) or
equivalent degree and to have interest in doctoral studies. Experience,
knowledge or special interest in social media and Second Life or other
virtual environments is considered as special merit. It is desirable
that the candidate has working knowledge of Swedish language and/or good
command of English.
The tentative start date of the post is 1.4.2009, and the post has
funding from the present project until 31.12.2011. The post is located
in the newly renovated ASA campus in Turku, Finland. Electronic
