Workshop on Discourse-Oriented Approaches in LIS

A NorsLIS research workshop at the Department for Cultural Sciences, Lund University.

November 22-24, 2007

Lund, Sweden

The objective of the workshop is to give researchers a possibility to discuss the application of discourse-oriented approaches in LIS in a friendly atmosphere. We invite both Ph.D. students and researchers with or without previous experience of discourse-oriented approaches. The workshop will deal with linguistic practices in a broad and inclusive sense. The approaches presented and used by the workshop participants can be exemplified with, but should not be seen as limited to, ethnography, narrative analysis, discourse analysis, ethnomethodology and conversation analysis.

The workshop will also explore the range of research areas where such approaches can be applied. Examples of fields where discourse-oriented research is currently being carried out are knowledge management, information seeking research, library research, information literacy research, document studies, knowledge organisation, institutional interaction, archival science, science and technology studies, computer-mediated communication, and library, cultural and information policy research.

The workshop offers lectures by senior researchers giving a broad overview of discourse-oriented approaches, and welcomes submissions from both Ph.D. students and senior researchers that deal with analysis of linguistic practices.
