Verðlaunin skiptust á milli þriggja vísindamanna sem hafa umbreytt skilningi manna á ónæmiskerfinu og samspili meðfædda og áunna ónæmiskerfisins. Verðlaunin hlutu annars vegar Bruce A. Beutler við Texas háskóla og Jules A. Hoffmann við CNRS rannsóknarstofnunina í Strasbourg fyrir rannsóknir á toll-viðtökum og hins vegar Ralph M.
