Icelandic horses born in Iceland and exported to the continent are more frequently and more strongly affected than most other horses. Preventive immunisation with the specific allergens before export to the continent is regarded as a possible way to reduce the incidence of IBH in exported Icelandic horses. Eleven allergens from the salivary glands of C. nubeculosus have been isolated and produced. Preliminary results of immunisation with four of these recombinant allergens will be introduced. The role of T cells and cytokines in IBH in Icelandic horses both systematically and locally in the skin will be reviewed.

________________________________________________________________

Sigurður H.
