Fræðslufundur á vegum Örverufræðifélags Íslands

Í dag fimmtudaginn 14. febrúar 2008 verður haldinn fræðslufundur á vegum
Örverufræðifélags Íslands í Sjávarútvegshúsinu, Skúlagötu 4 kl 12:00.

Erindið flytur Charles Cockell, prófessor við Open Univerity í Bretlandi og
nefnist það "Biological Weathering of Volcanic Rocks”

Ágrip:
The weathering of volcanic rocks plays an important role in nutrient flux to
the biosphere and carbon dioxide drawdown, which ultimately controls climate.
However, we know very little about the microbiological involvement in these
processes and how microbial diversity in volcanic environments is controlled.
In this talk I will describe work being conducted by our group on the
geomicrobiology of volcanic rocks, with special reference to some recent work
on Icelandic volcanic rocks.
