Frásagnasafnið – opnun á laugardag

Þjóðfræðistofa og Skaftfell standa nú fyrir söfnun á frásögnum allra
íbúa sveitarfélaganna Strandabyggðar og Seyðisfjarðar. Söfnunin er í
formi frásagna sem teknar eru upp á myndband og fær hver viðmælandi að
velja eigið frásagnarefni. Um er að ræða einskonar svipmyndir sem
saman lagðar gefa sneiðmynd af samfélaginu. Myndefnið verður
aðgengilegt í söfnunarmiðstöðinni í sýningasal Skaftfells og í
Þróunarsetrinu á Hólmavík.

Svissnenski listamaðurinn Christoph Büchel, listrænn stjórnandi
Skaftfells árin 2011 og 2012, á frumkvæði að verkefninu en það er
styrkt af Menningarráði Vestfjarða og Menningarráði Austurlands.

Laugardaginn 17. september, kl. 17.00, í Þróunarsetrinu á Hólmavík,
verður verkefnið kynnt frekar og sýndar verða fyrstu frásagnirnar sem
safnast hafa.

The Narrative Collection – opening on Saturday


Skaftfell and the Icelandic Centre for Ethnology and Folklore (ICEF)
have taken on the extensive project of collecting narratives from all
the inhabitants of Seyðisfjörður and Strandabyggð. Swiss artist
Christoph Büchel, Skaftfell´s Art Director 2011-2012, initiated the
project and it is funded by the Cultural Councils of East Iceland and
the Westfjords.

It is exceptional to have the opportunity to map the memories of an
entire community. That sort of mapping not only gives insight into the
community in question but is also an original contemporary
documentation. A document on human existence, a document on the
passing of time, how generations communicate and the foundation upon
which today is based.

The collection is created by recording short videos of people
narrating anecdotes from their lives, images put together to create a
bigger picture of the community. The footage, along with instant
photos, will be made accessible to the public at the collection’s
centres in Skaftfell´s Gallery and in Hólmavík Development Centre.

Opening on Saturday, September 17th, at 5pm, at the Hólmavík
Development Centre.
