Hello everyone and thanks for a fun spring formal last Friday, but now back to science...
There are two interesting lectures tomorrow in the 3rd floor meeting room.
At 9:00
Dr. Kjetil Våge, one of the applicants for a position of an Associate Professor in Oceanography, is giving a lecture named "Revised circulation scheme north of the Denmark Strait", Tuesday April 1 at 9 am in the meeting room on the 3rd floor in Askja.
and then at 15:00
Dr. David JA Evans Professor of Quaternary Environmental Change, Durham University
co- author of the textbook "Glaciers & glaciations" gives a talk titled:
“Glacial landsystems: modern polar and alpine analogues for Quaternary palaeoglaciology”.
This talk will focus on the use of modern analogues for palaeoglaciological reconstruction, concentrating specifically on the glacial geomorphology of Icelandic deglaciated forelands. The landsystems concept is used in the compilation of modern analogues, thereby employing a conceptual process-form model approach to the interpretation of ancient glaciated landscapes. A range of glacier styles selected from the Icelandic landscape, including active temperate snouts, plateau icefields and surging glaciers, are identified and classified using the landsystems approach, and then applied to ancient glacial settings in North America, Britain and New Zealand.
Cheers
