Guðmundur Ingi Guðbrandsson from Landvernd (The Icelandic Environment Association) is gonna visit us this Thursday 7th of March
place: NORRÆNA HÚSIÐ (The Nordic house, beside Askja)
time: 12  o´clock

This lecture will cover a short overview of the major nature conservation issues facing Iceland today, including energy utilization and power lines, increasing tourism, oil drilling, national planning (Landsskipulag), off-road driving, climate change, invasive species, restoration of degraded land and restoration of wilderness areas. More detailed examples of recent ongoing debates or other pressing issues will be dealt with in more detail. The lecture will end with a discussion on public participation in nature conservation and environmental issues.

Guðmundur Ingi Guðbrandsson (a.k.a. Mummi) holds a BS degree in biology from the University of Iceland and a masters degree in environmental management from Yale University. He has been a parttime lecturer at the University of Iceland since 2006 and the University Centre of the Westfjords since 2011. Mummi leads the environmental NGO, Landvernd (The Icelandic Environment Association), as the managing director since September 2011.
