Landscape Fragmentation in Iceland

Landscape fragmentation provides baseline data of direct human influences
on landscape, habitat systems and land use.

In Europe disturbance to natural habitats is alarming in regards to both
flora and fauna, due to fragmentation. The lack of overview delayed
mitigation, while the problem increased day by day. If we have the baseline
data, we can monitor changes and address them in early stages, through e.g.
Strategic Environmental Assessment, where environment issues are studied
early in the development process. Iceland moves in the direction of Europe
regarding Land use. Fragmentation in Iceland has not been quantified.

This lecture addresses the methodology on how the fragmentation was
assessed and reviles first conclusions of comparable data with the Europe.

Short discussion on next steps follows the lecture where critical comments
are appreciated.

Hope to see you there !
