I'm sending this again because it seems that some people didn't receive the
message the first time around:
You are all invited to the Fourth Partnership Conference that the University
of Iceland holds regularly with the University of Manitoba (see attachment).
There is no conference fee and no sign-up; you can simply show up when you
please.
If you don't find anything of interest among the science papers on Friday
you should at least consider the following:
Those interested in the Icelandic-Canadian short story course this coming
fall should use the opportunity to hear and meet one of the authors that
will be read on the course, David Arnason, who heads the departments English
and Icelandic at the University of Manitoba, and is of Icelandic descent.
David Arnason, Dennis Cooley and Alison Calder will read from their works on
Friday at 15:45-16:30 in Room 132 in the Natural Sciences Building, Askja.
They also give papers on Saturday afternoon.
Saturday offers many interesting lectures in addition. On Saturday morning
there's a session on ecological economics, followed by one on a highly
interesting pioneer in the women's rights movement, Margret Benediktsson,
who founded the first women's paper in Canada, among other things.
I encourage you to use this opportunity.
