Allard, visiting professor from the Department of Literature, Film and
Theatre Studies at the University of Essex, U.K. The lectures are open to
all and students of English at the University are strongly encouraged to
attend!

Joe Allard has been teaching at Essex since 1977 and has studied Literature,
Art History and Music. He has taught in the U.S., Switzerland, Germany,
Iceland and Japan. He has published articles on seventeenth-century New
England painting and poetry; eighteenth-century American painting in the
European tradition; the influence of music theory on the theory of painting
in seventeenth-century France; Nathaniel Hawthorne; Emily Dickinson. Has
recently published articles about medieval Icelandic literature, and
post-1980s Icelandic literature and cinema. Other current work interests
include recent British and American poetry. He has edited several
anthologies of contemporary poetry and translates recent Icelandic poetry.
